In critically analyzing the book by Jack Weatherford, it is in order to appreciate the author of the article. Jack wrote the book with an intention of making the society aware of the contributions of the eminent figures like Genghis Khan. He examines the influence of Khan’s on European civilization during his tenure in the office. The author moved a step ahead to bring to focus the successors of Khan and their respective contribution towards the European Civilization. The name of the leader, Genghis Khan, represents an irony in the book. The name symbolizes destruction, a factor that does not appear in Khan’s leadership. His contributions remain eminent thus convincing every one of his characters.

Change from medieval to modern period represents one of the major contributions of Genghis. The author uses the attribute as the focal point of his argument. It remains in order arguing that, Khan was the force behind these changes following his leadership roles and initiatives. The Mongols proved the power for the successful move from the medieval error to the modern state of the world.  The major indicator of the reasoning on the changes is when the Mongols conquered the great empire. The empire ran from the Pacific to Mediterranean. Some authors have compared the size of the empire to the entire African continent. The conquest proved a great achievement of the Mongols since by then they had a population of approximately one million with about 1000 army officers. It follows, therefore, that with lack of determination and passion for an undertaking no leader can accomplish such a task. Genghis Khan thus comes out vividly as a leader of great achievements.

The Contributions of Genghis Khan

Jack Weatherford presented a lot of attribution to the Mongol Empire leader Genghis Khan. However, the author seemed to remain overwhelmed by Khan’s contribution towards the movement from the medieval period to the modern state of life. Critically thinking, it remains convincing when a positive change takes place in any society. Any person who would be living during the Mongolic period would have wished for the same alterations. It is at this point that one stands to appreciate history as a medium of passing information from one point to another. Narrowing directly to the move from medieval to modern period, it is worth concluding that the current society enjoys the current status quo due to the efforts of Genghis Khan.

Weatherford in his argument notices that the upcoming of the renaissance was a contribution of the Mongol initiative under their reputable leader Genghis Khan. The author termed renaissance a rebirth; an effort of the Mongol Empire. Major changes occurred in such areas as democracy and governance, art, astronomy, and paper money among others. In the current society, every nation fights for democracy in its system of rule. Equality in various aspects including decision making procedures have remained the centre of argument. Every person fights for freedom, a factor that did not begin yesterday. More so, it is apparent in our society that all people prefer the use of machines in performing their routine duties. The demand follows advantages related to machines including the reduced time spent in performing such duties. Ideally, Genghis may be seen as the brain child of all these new undertakings. The modern society enjoys a wide range of new technology that proves the initial fight of the Mongol Empire.

What the Modern World Owes Genghis Khan

In essence, the current world remains highly indebted to Genghis Khan in many aspects. Personally, existence of democracy forms one major area of consideration when tackling any matter related to The Mongol Empire. Can any body imagine of moving back to the medieval period? The answer is absolutely no. For those who have enjoyed and anticipate seeing the full nature of democracy, none would be wishing to turn back. The level of freedom in the modern society cutting from social, economic, to political influences proves the interest of many people.

In appreciated the current state of democracy, it becomes vital understanding some of the Khan’s reforms. Kublai Khan is a reform that Genghis initiated in China during his tenure. One major contribution of the reform is the localization of power that saw political firms gaining more political strength. The move marked China’s first experience of democracy since its existence in history.  The Mongol leadership consisted of many indicators of democracy including the manner in which they chose their leaders. The council which was known as khuriltai, was directly in charge of the elections of the Mongol leaders. Genghis led according to the will of the subjects and never indicated any element of dictatorship. The modern leaders stand a chance of borrowing many skills from Genghis to apply in the governments.

It is not only in leadership that people owe value to Genghis Khan. The education sector has a lot to give to the leader if the contribution were to be remunerated. The field of education requires more freedom than one could imagine. Many scholars need to be free in all their undertakings in order to express their academic prowess. Through his contributions, many intellectuals attained the ability to use reasoning in explaining the existence of many concepts as opposed to the past.

Modern Factors Depicting Genghis Khan’s Contributions

History has it that through the efforts of Genghis and his Mongol Empire, the modern society has a lot to enjoy. The facilities range from small elements that people ignore to the ones they consider valuable. The first point is the reduced racism in the society today. During his time, discrimination on the grounds of race remained a real concern. People segregated duties and roles while considering racial grounds. The level of discrimination turned high during this period. However, Genghis put a lot of effort in curbing the hatred that prevailed during the moment. The reduced level of discrimination that see white, blacks, and Arabs study bin a common institution prove as one of his efforts.

One important aspect of historical values that penetrated from the Khan’s period to date is the rule of law. Dictatorship is a factor that any leadership can only eliminate when they apply the rule of law. One characteristic of Mongol Empire was the use of law in deciding issues whether critical or not. Their way of choosing leaders followed laid down procedures through the valid people. The Mongol Empire had a council that was in charge of electing Mongol leaders in a fair manner. However, most of the countries in the modern world use citizens to decide on who becomes a leader. In keen analysis, the current system and the Mongol version converge on the point of giving people rights to make decisions. Many states in the today’s world possess laws that govern every bit of behavior. Dictatorship has remained of no importance in the modern world.
